LICENSED home based daycare in Kanata Lakes area in Kanata. I have one spot available for a child 2 years and up effective Feb/March 2024.
I am a University educated individual who has been successfully operating a home based daycare for the past 20 years. Prior to that I held senior level positions in the business world but my true passion was to work with kids. In 2003, I gave up my business career and followed my heart; I started up a home based daycare and I have never looked back. I love working with the kids and their families as much today as I did when I first opened the daycare.
Operating as a licensed daycare means we must meet all the numerous rules and regulations set out by the Ministry of Education. I am overseen by Natural Connections Childcare, a regulatory organization that does regular visits to ensure the children are happy and that I am meeting all the required parameters set forth by the ministry.
Our home is located on a very quiet and safe crescent with quick access to the Queensway and the Hi-Tech area in Kanata. It is located very close to several parks, splash pads and nature trails which we spend a great deal of time at when not playing in our fully fenced in backyard that has a host of outdoor play equipment.
The daycare operation is run on the main floor of our smoke free/vape free bungalow and the children have full access to the entire main floor which is open and very bright. We have a very cute and loving Golden Doodle dog but he is kept separated from the children unless parents provide approval for the children to pet the dog.
My daycare is run by myself and my 26 year old daughter who completed her Early Childhood Education (ECE) diploma in Dec 2020.
Our overall focus is to provide a safe, loving and nurturing environment where the children learn to be social, self confident, respectful, adaptable and are encouraged to grow to their full learning potential. Our approach is a combination of the Play Based Learning philosophy with some focused learning time set aside each day as well. We are a Christian family and christian morals and values are passed along to the children in the course of our everyday activities. By the time the children go off to JK/SK most are very well prepared to successfully meet the social and academic milestones expected by the school system. In fact, many are well ahead of where they need to be. Most of my daycare parents can speak to how well adjusted their children were to the school system based on our combined learning and playbased curriculum.
We believe that learning happens not only in a indoor setting but also in an outdoor environment as well. We therefore spend a fair amount of time outside where the children get to explore, learn and get some good exercise while in the great outdoors.
We also ensure they receive a balanced and healthy meal plan, which helps to aid in their mental and physical development. Although English is the first language spoken at the daycare, we do spend time each day speaking and teaching the children basic level French.
Many of my daycare families have sent 2-3 of their children to my daycare which speaks to the quality of care I provide and the relationships I have fostered with both the children and the parents. Parents often tell me/us how obvious our love for the children is and how the children love spending their days with us. We can provide a host of excellent references from past and current clients.
I believe open, honest and regular two-way communication is a key foundation to running a successful daycare that meets the needs of the child, their parents and the staff of the daycare. Along with quick chats with parents at pick up and drop off times, my daycare uses a software program that sends parents regular and daily updates of their children’s behaviour, food consumption, activities, sleep activities, mood, etc. Videos and pictures are also sent to the parents so that they get a very good appreciation of what their children are doing on a daily basis. There is also ongoing dialogue through phone, email and text if other information or concerns need to be shared.
