Description

Preventing child sexual abuse is everyone’s responsibility.  As home child care providers, you play a unique role – serving multiple families and caring for many children.  Understanding child sexual abuse, the grooming process, behaviours a child may exhibit, and how they might disclose abuse, is crucial.

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection offers two online training courses, an introductory overview, and a more in-depth follow-up:

Commit to Kids: Foundational Information for Safeguarding Children from Sexual Abuse is a short online overview for individuals who work with children and are looking for foundational information on child sexual abuse, or those looking to refresh their knowledge on the topic. Parents who have children in child-serving organizations may also find the content relevant.

This training is free for everyone and can be accessed here: https://protectchildren.ca/en/get-involved/online-training/commit-to-kids-foundation-safeguarding-children/  You do not need a CCPRN ticket or link to access this training, simply visit their website and create an account.  Certificates provided.

Commit to Kids — Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training for those Working with Children is online training for individuals who work or volunteer with children. This training results in a certificate of completion, comes with a downloadable resources guide and covers the following topics: the definition of child sexual abuse, the grooming process, handling disclosures of child sexual abuse, the impact of child sexual abuse, creating a Child Protection Code of Conduct, and policies and procedures to protect children.

*Some sections of this training are designed to help organizations create a child protection code of conduct, review hiring, supervising, and monitoring practices, and establish reporting procedures for misconduct and sexual abuse concerns.  While this section is not directly connected to home child care, it is still a valuable component of the training.

This training is more in-depth.  It is free for CCPRN caregiver members and $5 for non-members.  To access this training, please add it to your cart and complete the order.  The training link will be emailed to you within 48 hours.
